Care for eye conditions

Before and after

If your eyes are itchy and watery, you may be suffering from blepharitis.

This is the medical term for chronic, inflammatory disease of the eyelids caused by an overgrowth of normal bacteria living along the lid and the base of the eyelashes.

Anyone can get it at any age, but the prevalence increases with age, since as we get older, we make fewer natural antibodies in our tears.

Edgbaston Eye Clinic, run by consultant clinical optometrist Don Williams, has a fully dedicated clinic for blepharitis.

The advanced BlephEx™ treatment can precisely and safely clean and exfoliate your eyelids and lashes, which will almost immediately improve your symptoms.

More importantly, by completely removing the exotoxin-laden biofilm along the lid margin, it can help avoid long-term damage, preventing chronic dry eye syndrome.

If you have one or more of the following symptoms, you may be suffering from blepharitis:
* Itching or scratchy eyes
* Tearing
* Crusting
* Foreign body sensation
* Redness/inflammation
* Mattering
* Dry eye
* Eye rubbing

If left untreated, blepharitis can lead to a number of eyelid diseases.

The clinic also treats dry eye syndrome and Demodex. Demodex folliculorum is a species of face mite, one of the parasitic/commensal face mites that occur on people.

Edgbaston Eye Clinic works very closely with one of the most experienced oculoplastic ophthalmologists, Mr A Murray, should your case require more advanced management.

Book a consultation to discuss your symptoms or concerns.
