In the November issue of The Village, we announced the launch of our Alvechurch-based residential cleaning business, My Clean Home.

This month, we thought it might be helpful to provide answers to some of the more common questions put to us . . .

Are you a franchise cleaning business?
No, we are an independent residential cleaning business based in Alvechurch, serving customers in nearby areas.

Our business model is simply to focus on two things above all else - demonstrating impressive cleaning and reliable customer service.

Are you expensive?
While we try to be as competitive as possible, we probably do charge a higher fee than many freelance cleaners, who are unlikely to be VAT-registered and probably do not have our business overheads.

Are your cleaners insured in the event of breakages or other damage?
All of our cleaners are covered by our comprehensive trade insurance while cleaning at your home.

In the unlikely event of one of our cleaners causing any form of property damage, we would of course compensate you without hesitation.

Do you ever use temporary or casual cleaning staff from an outside agency?
No, we never use temporary or casual staff provided by an outside agency, nor do we subcontract any aspect of our work to others.

We have our own team of regular cleaners all of whom are directly employed by us.
How do I know I can trust your cleaners?
We recognise that the goodwill and reputation of our business almost entirely depends on the professional competence and integrity of our staff.

All of our cleaners have therefore been DBS checked and we exercise great care when recruiting new team members.

Do you always send the same cleaners to people’s homes?
Yes, it would only be in exceptional and unforeseen circumstances that your regular cleaners are unable to attend.

Under no circumstances would we permit your home to be cleaned without at least one of your regular cleaners or our team supervisor present.

How much do you charge?
It is often assumed that we charge an hourly rate for our services. In our experience, however, this can cause certain difficulties.

One issue, for example, is managing our clients’ expectations as to how much cleaning work can be achieved to the required standard on each visit, within a certain period of time.

Our preferred approach is to offer a cleaning service tailored to your requirements for a fixed fee. This provides certainty for both of us, and allows you to accurately manage your home budget.

How often would you visit?
We typically clean for customers weekly, fortnightly or at four-weekly intervals, although we do provide an ad hoc service for those clients who would prefer to contact us as and when required.

We also offer one-off spring or deep cleans too.

Are you reliable in terms of attending at the scheduled time?
Yes, we consider this to be a fundamental aspect of good customer service.

The only foreseeable situation in which there would be a risk of us not being able to attend at the scheduled time would be due to a heavy downfall of snow.

We would of course contact you at the relevant time and advise if we are able to offer an alternative appointment.

Do I need to be at home when you call?
Many of our clients are at work when we visit, and therefore provide us with a spare key and instructions to disable any alarm. 

Our cleaners return all of our customers’ keys to our secure office at the end of each working day, where they are held in a locked safe.

All customer keys are coded, and do not disclose any of our customers’ names or addresses.

When would you call?
This would be discussed and agreed with you but we would try our best to accommodate any preference that you may have.

Please note that we do not normally work outside normal office hours or at weekends, and certain times of the week can be in particularly high demand, such as Friday afternoons, for example.

Can you provide references?
Yes, absolutely - some of our clients are so delighted with our work that they have volunteered to provide a reference should one ever be required.
