Recital by virtuoso guitarist

Posted on February 27 2020 at 2:26:24

Unmissable! A word which well sums up any recital by world-famous guitarist Craig Ogden, who will be paying a visit to Alvechurch in March.

The much-travelled Australian-born virtuoso is currently on tour throughout the length and breadth of Britain – quite a coup, then, for The Midland Sinfonia to acquire his services as part of its annual programme of classical chamber music.

Craig’s concert at St Laurence Church on Saturday March 7 will include many of the popular favourites that have endeared him to audiences, including legions of radio listeners, all over the world: pieces by Albéniz (Sevilla and Asturias), Tarrega (Recuerdos de la Alhambra), Scarlatti, Coste, Borrios, Legnani, and the UK’s own Gary Ryan and George Harrison (Here Comes the Sun).

You may not be familiar with every name and title, but you’ll certainly recognise the melodies.

The Sinfonia, now in its 25th season, is renowned for bringing music of high quality and great variety – chamber and orchestral classics, folk, jazz and instrumental – to this corner of the Midlands, performing at either St Laurence or the adjoining Ark.

Forthcoming concerts will include the Mozart horn concerto made famous by Flanders and Swann, and an American-themed programme of works by Gershwin, Copland and others. Full details can be seen on the website.

An Audience with Craig Ogden will take place on Saturday March 7 at St Laurence Church, with doors opening at 7pm for a 7.30 start.

You can purchase tickets for £20 (£5 for students and accompanied children) on the door, or in advance (£19) from Gin and Pickles, The Square, Alvechurch, or at
