Alvechurch FC links up with Real Madrid to give young players a world-class opportunity.

Alvechurch FC is offering youngsters the chance to train with world-class coaches this summer as the club links up with Fundación Real Madrid, the world’s most famous football academy.

Spanish championship record-holders and current UEFA Champions League titleholders Real Madrid are active around the world promoting social and cultural values in sport.

Fundación Real Madrid Clinics brings the Youth Academy’s training philosophy to eight different European countries, and Alvechurch consider themselves honoured to be chosen as one of 200 partner clubs for 2018.

Taking place in August, the football clinic consists of a five-day camp, open to boys and girls aged from seven to 15 years.

As well as receiving expert training and nutritional advice, the best players will be chosen to trial in front of the scouts at their Creator Camps and, should they be successful, have the chance to play at the Bernabeu.

AFC Chairman Richard Thorndike says, “Talks with Fundación Real Madrid about the possibility of linking with Alvechurch started last September.

“They had lots of options but they liked our location – and, having seen the recent good press surrounding the club, including Dubidat’s ‘wonder goal’ , they chose us to partner with.

“To have coaches from Real Madrid coaching local kids for a week will be a delight to see. Our own coaches will learn from the best, while the young players can develop their skills.

“Spaces are limited and we expect them to be filled extremely fast, so I suggest parents log on to our website and get their reservation forms in quickly.”

Meanwhile, ’Church have reached the quarter final of the Birmingham Senior Cup by beating EvoStik Premier side Rushall Olympic on penalties.

The game finished 1-1 at full time, with Yusif Ceesay scoring the Alvechurch equaliser. ’Church scored all four of their penalties, with Rushall missing two of theirs, to see the home side through 4-2.

They will play the winners of the Leamington v West Bromwich Albion tie, which is yet to be played.

AFC are still due to play Heath Hayes in the JW Hunt Cup, having had the match postponed twice already due to weather.

In the league, Alvechurch have had a stroke of luck at another team’s expense, as promotion rivals Cleethorpes Town were deducted 12 points for fielding an ineligible player.

Goalkeeper Richard Walton’s registration from Lincoln City was not completed correctly and the FA has given Cleethorpes a fine as well as point deduction.

Before the deduction Cleethorpes were one place above Alvechurch, although AFC had games in hand and the two clubs are yet to play each other both home and away.

As we go to press Cleethorpes are now 15 points behind Alvechurch with a game in hand.

* Alvechurch have signed forward Aaron Lloyd from Stourport Swifts. He had already scored 18 goals in 28 matches for them this season before switching to Lye Meadow.

Forward Elliot Reeve has joined ’Church from Midland Football League side Heanor Town. Elliot is currently studying at Birmingham University and wanted to play more locally.

While playing for Heanor he had scored 36 goals in 68 games.

Ex-AFC goalkeeper Jasmin Keranovic has joined Scottish Premier side Kilmarnock FC. Jasmin joined Alvechurch on loan from West Bromwich Albion and started regularly for the first team before being recalled.

Now he has the opportunity to play the likes of Glasgow Celtic and Rangers in front of 50,000 supporters.
