Squad’s double success

Posted on January 30 2018 at 10:59:45

With a gap in first XV fixtures, the Kings Norton (Ash Lane, Hopwood) rugby development squad played two fixtures recently.

This was a great opportunity to allow the whole squad some game time, with a great mix of players including long-term members and Birmingham University students.

Following an away win at Redditch on January 6 against their 2nd XV, the club played Stourbridge Lions 2nd XV at home the following Saturday.

In front of a good crowd of enthusiastic supporters and with both clubs boasting a large squad, it was great to see players rotated and all getting some game time.

The match was very close throughout, with great pressure from the Stourbridge team near the Kings Norton line being defended staunchly.

Kings Norton eventually won with a fine try deciding it at the death – the final score was 24–14.

Kings Norton play regular home fixtures on Saturday afternoons with spectators welcome. The next home match is against Trinity Guild on Saturday February 17, kick-off 2.15pm. Details of other fixtures are on the website.

New players are welcome, whether new to rugby or returning to the sport. Coaching and fitness training takes place under County standard floodlights on Wednesday evenings from 7pm.
