Jackie and students

Village readers will recall our photos of the special mosaic at Alvechurch Middle School in memory of pupil Finlay Church – and now its creator is offering workshops where participants can learn to make a mosaic of their own.
Mosaic artist Jackie Nash, who helped Finlay’s classmates to create the colourful memorial with assistance from her builder husband Elliott Nash, runs various courses at her studio in Blackwell.

Courses are suitable for beginners and intermediates, with all materials, tuition and use of equipment included in the price – as well as tea, coffee and homemade cake!

A one-day workshop costs £89 per person; a half-day workshop is £45, and a six-week half-day course is £240.

Students will have the opportunity to complete a mosaic using their own or one of Jackie’s designs, with a wide selection of mosaic tiles and bases to choose from.

“Mosaic is a fantastic medium for students to work with; it’s a really easy technique to learn, but one that can produce truly impressive results,” says Jackie.

“I enjoy helping students to learn new skills while developing their own creativity.”

After gaining a BA (Hons) in Ceramics, Jackie qualified as a teacher, lecturing in Ceramics and Art & Design for ten years.

Then, 11 years ago, she was asked to produce a mosaic for her daughter’s school. “I absolutely loved the technique and materials and was instantly hooked,” she says.

Jackie now works full-time as a mosaic artist, and has produced commissions for private clients, schools and community groups.
