Stitched with love

Wall hanging

Artrix in Bromsgrove was full of colourful creations when Avoncroft Young Embroiderers held a Stitch Day in the foyer.

The morning was spent happily decorating felt leaves with stitches and beads, with members of the public invited to try their hands at stitching and then adding a leaf to a fabric tree to form a special wall hanging (pictured).

This was then displayed upstairs in the Vestibule Gallery as part of the Young Embroiderers’ exhibition of work done at their monthly meetings over the past few years.

The work on show ranged from tiny mice and owls to prize-winning sunflowers. Many different embroidery techniques were represented in pictures and designs and three of the pieces were inspired by the Staffordshire Hoard.

Two group-made panels, Peacock and Celebration in Red, had previously been exhibited at the NEC.

The Artrix exhibition ran throughout September alongside an exhibition in the main gallery presented by the Embroiderers Guild. This showed a stunning selection of work produced by Guild members to celebrate the 300th anniversary of Capability Brown.

The artwork drew inspiration from his landscapes and gardens and the exhibition was one of more than 40 around the country at National Trust properties and other venues.

Avoncroft Young Embroiderers meets on the third Saturday of the month at Avoncroft Arts Centre. For further information contact .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)
