Today, Barnt Green is a thriving village with a huge variety of shops, businesses and services – there are so many interesting things to see that you could easily spend a day browsing, especially since there is also a choice of places to eat and drink.

In the past year, the face of the village centre has seen several more changes, with new shops opening and others adding improvements – the latest newcomer to be welcomed is Greens Cuisine, which fills the vacant greengrocer’s slot left by the departure of Barnt Greens (see main feature) and offers a selection of tasty fresh produce.

Earlier in the year we featured Warwick’s, the new butcher, where customers will find the choicest cuts of meat plus plenty of other delicious items including guaranteed double-yolk eggs and marinades for summer barbecues.

Deli and Cafe on the Green continues to thrive under the ownership of Sue Clark, who now offers an outside catering service as well as the usual tasty treats.

Coming soon to Barnt Green is Vis a Vis, a brand-new salon due to open shortly in the former Bodi-Tori premises – the range of beauty treatments and therapies carried out by experienced staff will be perfect for anyone wanting to look their best before a summer holiday or special occasion.

On the subject of beauty and health, Stella Alexander and Beauty by Rebecca have formed a joint business above the busy Michelle Griffin hair salon, providing indulgent treatments such as sea salt scrubs, express facials and luxury pedicures as well as colon hydrotherapy to get you in the best of health.

Meanwhile, Beauticle offers all-natural Calgel nails and Sienna spray tanning, also ideal for those jetting off the exotic shores this season.

Elsewhere in the village, some of the longer-established businesses have been making changes – fashion boutique Hollywood Collections has changed its name to Hollywood, and continues to draw in clients from Barnt Green and much further afield with its stunning occasion wear from designer brands.

Over at It’s A Gift, which incorporates Paws Here, our furry friends can also find the latest trends in dog- and cat-wear – and with the opening of a new changing room, pets can have their privacy as they try on cute or glamorous outfits before strutting their stuff to the delight of shoppers.

It’s A Gift also offers plenty to tempt non-pet-owners, with all manner of present ideas, cards and accessories.

And if you’re choosing a gift for someone special, pay a visit to Oasis, where a rainbow of flowers and plants are waiting to be made into bouquets and arrangements for all occasions.

Back to fashion again, and it’s been a big year for Continental Collections, which hosted a successful charity fashion show at Bromsgrove Rugby Club and raised more than £1,000 for the NSPCC.

Fundraising was also on the agenda for Joolz – the boutique exhibited summer fashions at the annual event for International Women’s Day, held at the Spadesbourne Suite in Bromsgrove.

It’s one year since Tony’s Handyman opened its new showroom at the rear of the Hewell Road shop, and the displays of the latest garden furniture and equipment have proved popular with customers who appreciate having time and space to browse.

As we move into summer, Tony’s Handyman stocks everything you need for outdoor living, including attractive patio furniture, decorative items, smart barbecues and the gas or charcoal required to operate them.

Eye Opticians is celebrating its first highly successful year in Barnt Green with special offers on designer sunglasses and frames. The shop features major brands including Gucci, Prada, Tag Sport and Fendi, and customers also appreciate the extremely thorough eye examinations carried out on site.

Contact lenses, specialist lenses and frames for sporting activities, and eyewear for children are all available – you’re guaranteed to look great as well as knowing your eyes are well cared for.

Barnt Green Opticians, meanwhile, is now in its 20th year, and continues to provide excellent customer service as well as the latest designs from brands such as Silhouette. The firm also offers the Varilux Physio, the latest generation of Varilux varifocal lenses, giving precision vision.

And if you overdo it shopping, Kath Hamflett’s successful Barnt Green Physiotherapy practice is the place to go to sort out aches and strains!
