Your guide to the wide range of ideas and services on display at our second Wedding Show!

On Sunday September 5, The Village will hold its second Wedding Show at Hillscourt Conference Centre – after the success of our inaugural event at the same venue last year, we think this one will be even bigger and better!

Once again, we will welcome a whole host of exhibitors covering every aspect of matrimony, showcasing their services and dispensing expert advice . . . and visitors will be able to pick up even more ideas in our glamorous CATWALK SHOW at 1.30pm.

The stunning surroundings and top-notch facilities at the stylishly refurbished Hillscourt Conference Centre make it an ideal location for a wedding, with beautiful grounds, two licensed ceremony rooms and a super-stylish bridal suite. And it’s also perfect for our Show, with exhibitors able to display their wares to their best advantage in the fabulous, ultra-modern conference suite.

Those planning a wedding can take the opportunity to have a good look at Hillscourt’s excellent facilities, as well as sampling the venue’s catering – the bar will be open throughout the exhibition, serving drinks and a menu of light bites.

The Catwalk Show, which takes place in the spacious restaurant area on a catwalk provided by Inside Out Entertainment, will feature a selection of sumptuous bridalwear from Gatehouse Brides of Malvern. After viewing the collection in its full glory, you will be able to have a closer look and try the dresses for size on the ground floor of the conference suite.

More bridalwear will be on display courtesy of Curio, which also offers suit hire at its boutique in Smethwick, while Forever Lace of Harborne will be bringing a selection of beautiful bespoke fascinators to complement any wedding outfit.

As every girl knows, the accessories are every bit as important as the dress itself, and our Show offers plenty of inspiration for every element of your attire. Temptations of Barnt Green provides a gorgeous range of lingerie to ensure a perfect foundation for the wedding gown (and to make you feel super-sexy on the wedding night!), and Xavier Footwear of Tardebigge will create bespoke shoes to match any requirement.

For the finishing touch, Coconut Pink of Blackwell offers beautiful handmade jewellery featuring beads and charms, with commissions taken – a great idea for brides, bridesmaids and guests alike.

The Wedding Show also hosts plenty of exhibitors who can help you look a million dollars on your big day, including Bliss Hair Therapy of Alvechurch who will be creating the hairstyles for our Catwalk Show. You can see the stylists in action from 11am. Meanwhile, 2Beautiful of Rubery will be demonstrating beauty treatments and Hopi ear candling, and SKY-L.A-Tan will be happy to discuss the benefits of a healthy golden glow for the wedding and honeymoon!

Gently Does It, the ladies-only gym in Rednal, will be on hand to explain why their gentle exercise programme is the perfect way to get in shape before the big day, and remember that they also offer a range of beauty and complementary treatments.

Every wedding essential you could possibly require can be found at our Show, from organisational services (The Wedding Planner) to finding someone to conduct the ceremony itself (the registrars from Worcestershire County Council Registration Service).

If you’re considering hiring a marquee for your reception, either at Hillscourt or another venue, come and chat to G&J Marquees – and for all your venue dressing needs, check out Clare’s Bespoke Wedding Services and Partylite’s attractive display of candles.

You’ll find expert advice on flowers from Barnt Green florists Oasis, and a delicious selection of wedding cakes from Alison Taylor Cakes. . . plus a delightful range of vintage china from Constance Wallace of Tardebigge.

Handmade stationery from Wicked Weddingz is a lovely way to invite and thank your guests, while JDF Photography and Arch Moving Memories will help capture your special day forever.

Don’t forget to look at the vintage and classic vehicles exhibited by Sassy Chassis of Redditch, and also keep an eye out for authentic chimney sweep Dan Tansell, who will be bringing good luck to visiting brides!

Toastmaster Brian Crockett will be making various announcements throughout the day, and visitors will also be kept entertained by the musical talents of saxophonist Rod Arnold and guitarist Stuart Toogood.

Finally, one of the most important parts of a wedding is of course the honeymoon, and local travel counsellor Jane Ward will be on hand with suggestions, top tips and essential advice on fantastic destinations at home or abroad. The best way to highlight how satisfied Jane’s customers are is to let them tell the story, so it’s over to Sally and John Laver to describe how Jane organised the honeymoon of a lifetime:

“Following the best day of our lives (our wedding on Saturday July 3 at The Redhouse Barn in Stoke Prior) myself and my husband didn’t think anything could be as good. . . until we went on honeymoon to Kenya, organised by Jane Ward of Travel Counsellors.

When I first spoke to Jane about organising our honeymoon I mentioned three words: Safari, Paradise and Relaxation – and she found us the perfect package. We had five days’ safari, starting at the Treetops Hotel and watering hole, then to Lake Nakuru, Lake Naivasha and finally two days in the famous Masai Mara, home of the “big five”.

We saw a wide range of animals in their natural environment, including flamingos, baboons, zebras, wildebeest, white rhinos, herds of elephants, hippos, prides of lions, a leopard, cheetah. . . the list is endless.

Jane also organised an early morning hot air balloon ride followed by a champagne breakfast in the Masai Mara, which is an experience we will never forget. We met some great people along the way and the hotels we stayed in were right in the middle of the game reserves with excellent facilities and a good selection of food and drink.

After the early morning game drives and rough terrain we were ready to relax by the beach. We flew from Nairobi to Mombasa to spend the last six days of our honeymoon in what I can only describe as PARADISE: The Cove Retreat, better known as Honeymoon Heaven.

We had our own private tree house with fabulous views from the four poster bed of the tranquil, turquoise sea, a large private balcony which was home to our own Jacuzzi, plus an outside lounge and dinning area. The Cove consisted of six tree houses, a restaurant, bar, private beach and pool area.

The staff were very warm and welcoming and couldn’t do enough for you. I don’t think I moved off my sun lounger once to get a drink! My husband and I completely switched off and relaxed, which gave us the perfect opportunity to reflect on our wedding.

A big thank you to Jane for organizing a honeymoon that we will remember for the rest of our lives. I will definitely be using Jane’s service again for future holidays.
