Feast of fine foods

For village food fans, Warwick’s Butchers in Barnt Green is a real gem – not only does it offer a wide range of top quality meats, but the shop is also packed full of delicious homemade treats and deli items.

Every Saturday, customers will be enticed by the smell of fresh French bread wafting out on to Hewell Road, including some interesting flavours such as Stilton, onion and olive focaccia.

And if you follow your nose into the shop, you won’t know where to look first – each counter and shelf offers something mouthwatering.

As well as the finest cuts of locally-sourced beef, lamb, pork and even game, there’s also award-winning black pudding, Italian meatballs (“very popular with children”) and lamb koftas – and the delicious burgers that won butcher Warwick Savage a Gold Award in England’s Best Burger Challenge 2014.

Warwick has used these burgers to create his own unusual invention: Beef Truffle. The burgers are hollowed out and filled with oak-smoked bacon, red onion and mozzarella cheese, plus spicy Argentine Fire sauce!

There are plenty of sausages to choose from, such as caramelised onion and balsamic vinegar, and the intriguingly-named Welsh Dragon.

Then there are the steak & Guinness pies, cottage pies and lasagnes made by Warwick, plus homemade giant Scotch eggs, samosas and pork pies, and fresh eggs including duck eggs.

Curry fans will love the various sauces, which handily keep in the fridge for several months, and Warwick’s also stocks the famous Mister Dave’s Baltis.

Meanwhile, the deli area contains more than 20 different cheeses, pates, stuffed olives, chutneys, preserves and dressings, as well as special treats like stuffed garlic cloves, dried black garlic, and pork scratchings with garlic and chilli. Alvechurch honey is also on sale.

The shop also boasts a selection of cakes made by the Fatherson Bakery in Evesham - choices include classic Victoria sponge, coffee or orange sponge, and ginger and lemon loaf.

If you’re after a tasty treat to take away, you can buy hot and cold sandwiches and jacket potatoes with various fillings – and early birds can enjoy fresh bacon sandwiches from 8am. There are also lunchtime meal deals.

Finally, Warwick’s also offers pig roasts and BBQs for all occasions - perfect for bonfire parties!
