Music on the menu

Having achieved popularity as an attractive cafe during the daytime, The Potting Shed at Singletons Nurseries in Lydiate Ash has branched out into evening fare with a series of after-dark events.

This new venture began with an evening dining experience last month, when the cute and cosy venue was transformed into a stylish restaurant with white tablecloths, gleaming tableware and candlelight.

Customers enjoyed a special gourmet menu created by experienced chef Ben Middlehurst, but don’t worry if you missed it – there’s another chance to discover Ben’s culinary talents with a six-course taster menu on Saturday October 8.

It costs £39 per person, and diners are welcome to bring their own alcohol.

The Potting Shed has also introduced monthly theme nights, including a Halloween event on Friday October 28.

This will feature live music from Ellie Jones and the Giants, described as an eclectic group of musicians playing “the songs you love, and songs you’d forgotten you loved!”, from pop to ska, blues to soul.

There’s also a three-course set meal with coffee for £24.95. Again, you can bring your own drinks.

Then on Friday November 25 there’s an Italian night with live music by Tony Fellini, again with a three-course meal and coffee for £24.95.

Owner Claire Singleton says, “For ladies who like to be serenaded, Tony is the man!”

The Potting Shed is offering Christmas craft workshops where you can make Christmas cards, gifts and door wreaths – packages start at £24.50 including light lunch.

For more details on all upcoming events, just call in or keep an eye on the website.

Of course, The Potting Shed continues to serve afternoon tea, breakfast, lunch and snacks, using fresh local produce where possible.

The extensive menu features everything from homemade cakes, smoothies and Churchfields ice cream to soup, sandwiches, jacket potatoes, and fish and chips.

Decorated in pastel shades with vintage furniture and pretty flowers, the spacious wooden building also boasts a large outdoor seating area, all within the nursery’s secluded setting.

The Potting Shed is available for exclusive hire, and there’s also a catering service.

As well as plants and gardening accessories, Singletons also offers a huge range of giftware in a cosy shop adjoining the restaurant.

You’ll find kitchenware, ornaments, jewellery, local jams and chutneys, greetings cards and giftwrap – plus Christmas items coming soon!
