The new-look restaurant at Hillscourt

The latest phase of refurbishment at Hillscourt Conference Centre has given the venue a new name as well as a new look – it has been rebranded to become simply “Hillscourt”.

Manager Matthew Baker explains: “The simplified name is a better way to let customers know that we offer much more than conferencing facilities – Hillscourt is also a hotel and restaurant, as well as a perfect venue for weddings and functions.”

A stylish new logo has been developed to reflect the change, mirroring the tasteful brown and cream tones in which the centre is decorated. Hillscourt has undergone a series of refurbishments over the past three years, and this latest phase – thanks to half a million pounds’ worth of investment – brings the restaurant, kitchen, entrance and reception areas in line with the overall theme.

Guests are greeted by an electronic events board in the entrance area, informing them of everything that’s going on at Hillscourt, while the reception now has a lighter and more welcoming feel.

The restaurant, which offers bistro-style dining to non-residents as well as hotel guests, has been revamped with new furniture as well as decor, and the lovely stained glass windows have been restored to their original glory. This is a prime example of Hillscourt’s commitment to retaining and carefully incorporating the Victorian building’s many period features.

One important part of the upgrade – the kitchen – won’t be seen by most visitors, but they will certainly benefit from its new lease of life. “The kitchen is located in the oldest part of the building, and it really needed enlarging because of the way Hillscourt has grown,” says Matthew.

“We made some major structural alterations, which meant operating from temporary portable-cabin kitchens for three months during the harsh winter weather. It was quite a challenge for the catering staff, but they all coped admirably!”

The new kitchen will be well-used, with Hillscourt routinely catering for large numbers of wedding guests, partygoers or business people. It is particularly popular as a wedding venue, with a license to hold civil ceremonies and the beautiful 25-acre grounds making a perfect spot for photographs.

There’s also plenty of accommodation, with 55 en-suite bedrooms all boasting flatscreen TVs with Freeview, direct dial telephones and tea and coffee facilities.

Meanwhile, conferencing is still a major feature of Hillscourt – the extensive facilities include a stunning Conference Hall and two seminar rooms with state-of-the-art audio-visual equipment, plus a communal coffee lounge. There is also a BT Openzone wi-fi network covering the whole site.

Whether you’re visiting Hillscourt for work or pleasure, you can be assured of excellent customer service – and the centre has the added bonus of being located in delightful countryside at the foot of the Lickey Hills.
