Step into Christmas!

It’s almost here . . . are you getting excited yet? With the Christmas countdown well and truly underway, our villages are full of festive feeling, so there’s no excuse for not joining in the fun!

Barnt Green is the ideal place to get yourself into the seasonal spirit, as the local traders present two special Christmas evenings.

On Thursdays December 6 and 13, the shops will remain open until 8pm – and in addition to the present-buying opportunities, visitors can enjoy a variety of hot food and drink plus entertainment. Santa himself will even be dropping by on December 13.

Oasis Flowers & Balloons will be selling old-fashioned sweets and chocolates as well as its usual selection of flowers and plants to decorate your home or give as gifts. And Tony’s Handyman also offers a fabulous range of giftware for the kitchen and home, plus all your DIY needs.

If you’re heading for the ski slopes this winter, check out the designer prescription and non-prescription goggles at Eye Opticians, where you can also make sure your eyes are healthy as we go into a new year.

Computers also need some love at Christmas, and if yours is experiencing problems, contact Mike Nash at Ontrack Computers for friendly advice and assistance.

If you haven’t organised your Christmas turkey yet, pop in to Meadow Farm Butchers for a fine specimen (they also sell geese, cockerels and ducks if you fancy a change).
And while you’re in Barnt Green, why not arrange a visit to Beauticle, which offers a range of beauty treatments including Shellac nails?

In Alvechurch, an impressive Christmas tree has taken pride of place, kindly donated by Littleheath Garden Centre and installed by Neil and Alison of Hosking Ground Maintenance, with assistance from Adrian Perry, Ron Rand and The Village magazine.

And the local shops and businesses have plenty to offer when it comes to Yuletide –there are gifts and cards galore at The Joshua Tree, while Bliss Hair Therapy is waiting to beautify you ahead of all those seasonal parties.

It’s certainly party time at The Swan, with a great programme of entertainment before Christmas and a big celebration on New Year’s Eve. The pub will also opening for drinks on Christmas Day. Meanwhile, The Crown at Withybed Green (open until 3pm on Christmas Day) has a new winter menu as well as its great selection of real ales.

Just outside Alvechurch, the Coach & Horses at Weatheroak is still taking bookings for Christmas – and you can enjoy some more real ale in the cosy surroundings of the newly-refurbished lounge.

There are further Christmas shopping opportunities to be found outside of the village centres, with Littleheath Garden Centre offering plenty of festive cheer thanks to its late-night openings and the presence of some real reindeer!

For a different kind of Christmas cheer, check out the excellent real ales at Weatheroak Brewery in Studley – these would make a great gift idea and can also be bought in bulk for parties.

If you’re looking to buy a really special present, visit Cupitt of Bromsgrove and RF Collyer of Rubery where you’ll find a range of fabulous jewellery as well as watches and gifts.

Or you could buy a loved one a voucher for the luxurious Chessgrove Day Spa, which offers a wide range of pamper packages in tranquil surroundings.

Whatever you’re up to this Christmas, we hope you have a very merry time – and a very Happy New Year!
