Traditional teas for all occasions

1940s tea party

Since relocating to the centre of Barnt Green in March, the nostalgia-fest that is Constance Wallace has been doing a roaring trade.

The Tea Shop is always full of customers enjoying traditional tea, homemade cakes and sandwiches and soaking up the atmosphere.

As well as the food and drink, the venue is also hugely popular for its array of vintage and handmade homeware, collected or created by owner Diane Cooke – where else could you buy the very teacup you’ve just been drinking from?

Visitors of all ages appreciate the trip back in time, but one particular group found The Tea Shop perfect for their needs . . . the 1940s re-enactment group “Forever Forties”, who recently held a tea party at the venue.

Twenty two re-enactors turned up dressed in civilian and military clothing, and brought along three 1930s Austin motor cars and an American Jeep. Diane and her team also dressed in period outfits.

“The food was very good and beautifully presented – we will certainly be having another get-together at the Tea Shop in the future,” said group member Wendy Glenn.

The Tea Shop is a great place to meet friends or to celebrate an occasion, but Diane also continues to bring the Constance Wallace experience into customers’ homes with her mobile tea party service – helped by Peggy, the 1958 Austin van!

If you’re planning a picnic this summer, you can order a traditional hamper of treats from the Tea Shop, and Diane is now offering a takeaway service for snacks and lunches (pre-order the previous day).

The shop is open Monday– Saturday 10am–5pm, with private bookings on Sundays.
