The Tea Shop

It’s no surprise that The Tea Shop in Barnt Green is always full of happy customers – spending time in the vintage-style tea room and shop is a delight, with something new to see on every visit.

For autumn, the premises is decked out with pumpkins and bunting in seasonal colours, and these will soon be replaced by Christmas decorations as The Tea Shop prepares to celebrate its favourite season.

There’s plenty of new stock for Christmas, including lovely woven wool blankets, quilts, beautiful hand made cards and home decorations, and children’s gifts – plus hampers filled with just some of the vintage china collected by owner Diane Cooke and displayed in the shop.

“We really enjoy using our vintage baskets and lovely decorations to make the giftware look extra special,” says Diane, who also provides a gift-wrapping service.

Last year’s Christmas Afternoon Teas, featuring music from Alvechurch Community Choir, proved so popular that this year’s Sunday slots are already fully booked – but The Tea Shop is offering some late weeknights for Christmas celebrations, as well as late-night opening when the village lights are switched on.

All food served is freshly baked, and the menu reflects the colder season with more snuggly hot drinks, homemade soups and hotpots.

There’s also an ever-increasing variety of cakes, including the shop’s own version of toffee, date and walnut cake: “It has developed a naughty name with some of our customers because it’s so good!” comments Diane, who does most of the baking as well as creating lovely textiles to sell.

Pretty cupcakes are now available to order, and In the new year there will be some nice but not-so-naughty treats for a healthy start to 2015.

Gift vouchers for Afternoon Tea and other vouchers are available.

The complete afternoon tea delivery service is still very popular and Diane has bookings all through the winter and well into next summer with lots of weddings also booked.

And you can now book “the ultimate children’s tea party”, including a dressing-up box and even vintage chairs for the children to sit on!

The Tea Shop is also available on Sundays for private parties.

“We all absolutely love our Tea Shop and the lovely customers that we meet, and take great care to offer a very special time whenever anyone visits our shop or allows us to cater for their event,” says Diane.
