Cover Jan 05

Our combined Dec 04/Jan 05 cover showed, as was now traditional, a selection of people who had appeared in the magazine in the past year. Inside, readers were encouraged to buy the first-ever Village calendar!

Blackwell First School was going into a new calendar year with a new headmaster – Ian Howells, former deputy head at Hockley Heath Primary School, was described as an “exciting” teacher.

Elsewhere, the women’s toilets at Alvechurch Village Hall were to receive a £3,800 upgrade thanks to the proceeds from a sale and raffle and a donation of £1,000 from one anonymous villager.

Cofton bulbs

* Community library Co-ordinator Di Morgan prepares to plant daffodil bulbs donated by her parents Eric and Ivy Morgan (above) at Cofton Hackett Library to mark its 35th year on the site in 2005. Di, who had worked there for 30 of those years, hoped the flowers would add a splash of colour in the spring.

New kit sponsor

* Alvechurch FC had a new kit sponsor in the shape of local business Direct Windows and Conservatories, whose owner Kevin Hudson (right) is pictured with club Chairman Peter Eacock.
