Cover April 06

Our April 2006 cover showed a view over Tardebigge Wharf, while an article inside the magazine told of an important time in the canal’s history.

Road safety was on the agenda in Alvechurch, with police pledging to crack down on speeding traffic in response to residents’ pleas.

Elsewhere, we reported on the “emotionally-charged” three-day public inquiry into plans for a rendering plant in Hopwood, while Lickey and Blackwell residents were to be consulted on the future of their community as part of the new Parish Plan.

Gospel choir

* Members of Alvechurch Middle School’s gospel choir sang at the first ‘Engage” youth service in The Ark at St Laurence Church.

Taking place every Sunday evening, Engage was to be a more modern service including multi-media, new songs and worship styles.

Horse trough

* The drinking fountain and horse trough at the top of Lickey’s Rose Hill was being restored in celebration of its centenary.

The Bromsgrove Society, Lickey & Blackwell Parish Council and West Mercia Probation Service had joined forces to carry out the work ahead of an official unveiling by MP Julie Kirkbride.
