The 52nd Bromsgrove Festival takes place from April 18 to May 12, incorporating the 32nd International Young Musicians’ Platform (April 12–15) and offering a diverse selection of musical entertainment.

International Young Musicians’ Platform
New Guesten Hall, Avoncroft
Entry is free to the early rounds, which take place on April 12, 13 and 14 from 9.30am–6pm and April 15 from 9.30am–1pm
Finalists’ Concert
Sunday April 15 – 7pm

Wednesday April 18
New Guesten Hall, Avoncroft – 7pm
Film –  ‘Song of Summer’
Ken Russell’s film about the life of the composer Delius
Followed by Concert
with Alexander Sitkovetsky (violin) and Wu Qian (piano)
Sonata – Delius
Sonata – Cesar Franck

Friday April 27
Artrix – 7.45 pm
‘Upstairs, Downstairs’
Devised by Gabrielle Byam-Grounds
English Serenata with Lois Murray, soprano and narrators Jeffrey Dench and Katy Stephens
A lively musical flirtation with Telemann, Mozart, Tudor Song, Bach, Beethoven, Swing and Jazz

Saturday April 28
Artrix – 7.15pm
Film –  ‘In the Bleak Midwinter’
The 2011 film about Gustav Holst, produced by Tony Palmer who will be present to give a short introduction.

Friday May 4
Artrix – 6.30 pm
Big Spring Sing
After a workshop day with Ex Cathedra, pupils from Bromsgrove middle schools will perform what they’ve learned.

Saturday 5 May
Artrix – 7.45 pm
Midland Youth Jazz Orchestra
Conducted by John Ruddick with Katie Gaskin and Tom Sharp

Wednesday May 9
Grafton Manor Chapel – 7.45 pm

An illustrated lecture by Sir Roy Strong
Illustrating changes from Edward VII to Queen Elizabeth II

Saturday May 12

English Symphony Orchestra
Elgar’s Chorale Soloist Tom Poulson (trumpet)  Conducted by Donald Hunt
A London Overture  - Ireland
Rhapsody: A Shropshire Lad - Butterworth
Trumpet Concerto - Hummel
The performance will conclude with a recognition of the Diamond Jubilee year, including Elgar’s Nursery Suite, written for the Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret Rose

The Booking Office then opens to personal callers from April 12 to May 11, Mon to Fri (10.30am to 3.30pm) and Sat (10.30am to 1pm)
Patrons and subscribers will be given priority
