20mph village speed appeal

Posted on November 30 2015 at 10:35:37

A petition calling for 20mph speed limits throughout the villages of Alvechurch parish has been gathering names online.

Launched by resident and parish councillor Martin Ball, the petition says the villages would benefit from reduced speeds, making living in the area safer, and would encourage pedestrians and cyclists.

He hopes it may help to sway highways chiefs at Worcestershire County Council, who currently say they will not consider introducing such limits. It has already attracted more than 100 supporters.

Martin told The Village: “A 20mph limit can be introduced without additional traffic calming and the cost of altering existing traffic signs is low.”

* Alvechurch Parish Council’s new social media policy had its first test when a resident posted a national petition on its Facebook page.

Removal of the petition for a vote of no confidence in Prime Minister David Cameron was approved at the council’s monthly meeting.
