Barnt Green Waters has been awarded £50,000 Olympic legacy funding from Sports England’s Inspired Facilities fund.

Barnt Green Waters is an umbrella organisation providing facilities to Barnt Green Sailing and Fishing Clubs and the Birmingham Running and Triathlon Club.

It will use the £50,000 National Lottery grant to upgrade and improve changing room facilities.

The clubs have helped thousands of local young and not-so-young people get into sport for more than 100 years.

The improvements include increasing the changing areas, new non-slip flooring, replacing and increasing the number of showers, and a redecoration throughout.

Barnt Green Waters chairman Stuart Howe said: “We are delighted to have secured this investment, which means we can upgrade the quality of our premises to match the quality of our sailors, fishing members, triathletes, and the coaching infrastructure.

“It is the cornerstone of our strategy to have an outstanding facility for the Olympics’ legacy and we believe this will encourage more people to participate in our sports”.

MP Sajid Javid said: “As an important local resource, I am very pleased that Barnt Green Waters have been successful in securing funding from Sport England to improve their changing facilities.

“Through their various training and educational programmes the club encourage participation in young people and are an asset to the whole community.

“The new facilities will mean they can be used by more and attract young people, and with disabled facilities this will benefit everyone.”
