In Full . . .

50 years of village life

Posted on July 29 2019 at 11:44:36

Alvechurch Village Society (AVS) celebrated its 50th anniversary by inviting residents to a party at the village hall.

The evening’s entertainment included Morris dancing, storytelling with Chris Davies, and music from Alvechurch Community Choir who sang songs from 1969.

There was also a display of classic Alvechurch-built Dellow cars, plus children’s games, refreshments and a 1969 quiz (won by Sue and Richard Vernon).

The main aims of AVS are to retain the beauty and character of the Alvechurch area, as well as offering concerned views where necessary on issues and developments that may affect the area and its residents.

Alvechurch has 27 miles of highly accessible footpaths maintained by a Volunteer Footpath Group, who meet on alternate Saturday mornings from March to October. Anyone interested can contact Adrian Smith on 07941 508881.

AVS runs organised family-friendly and FREE guided walks on the first Sunday afternoon of each month, and village-wide litter picks are held in April and October, with families welcome. See notice boards or the AVS programme for details.

On the social side, AVS has a programme of events including a Christmas party, summer outing, the occasional talk and the biggest quiz in Alvechurch at the village hall every January. All are welcome to join in.

AVS continues to operate and increase its membership by charging a subscription of £10 per person per year (free for children and young adults).
