In Full . . .

A new home for AFC

’Church plan for the future with a move to The Hayes.

Alvechurch FC has finally been granted planning permission to develop a new home at The Hayes, just three miles outside the village on Wasthill Lane.

The new facilities will encompass an all-weather stadium pitch, associated club house, function rooms and changing rooms as well as four grass pitches.

The club agreed a 25-year lease on the site in 2016, and has worked closely with Birmingham City Council and Bromsgrove and Redditch councils over the past couple of years to bring the project to fruition.

Funding has been discussed at length with the FA and Football Foundation. Work is due to begin in March 2019 and may be completed around autumn that year.

Chairman Richard Thorndike said: “The development will secure the long-term future of the club and offers us the best opportunity to compete at Step 3.

“The new ground is in an area with a surrounding population of 140,000 or so which is a massive increase from the 5,500 population of Alvechurch.

Historically our supporters travelled to Lye Meadow from Northfield, Longbridge and Kings Norton, so hopefully we can rekindle some of their and their children’s support.

“A big ‘thank you’ to everyone who has been involved with the project.”

* Pre-season action has included a batch of friendlies (including a 6–2 win over Wolverhampton Casuals) and also the semi-final of the WFA Senior Cup – in which ’Church thrashed Kidderminster Harriers 6–0 to progress to the final against Evesham United or Redditch United.

AFC have also been drawn at home to Bromsgrove Sporting in the Preliminary Round of the FA Cup. The local derby tie will be played on Saturday August 25.

* Meanwhile, AFC have signed experienced right-back Josh Ezewele from Redditch United. Josh started his career at West Bromwich Albion, playing regularly for the under-21 side.

He then joined Kidderminster Harriers and helped them to second in the league.

Centre-back Luke Paskin has re joined the club for pre-season training. Luke played for manager Ian Long at Tividale, winning the league, and at Alvechurch before deciding to play for Lye Town last season.

Right-back Jamie Ashmore has joined fellow Southern League Central side Redditch United, while Jordan Nadat has left to join local rivals Sutton Coldfield Town. Midfielder Babucar Sauane, forward Yusifu Ceesay and captain Ashley Carter have moved up a level to National League North’s Nuneaton Borough.

* AFC is looking for volunteers to help out on matchdays with a variety of jobs, especially running the hospitality section on matchdays – this involves meeting and greeting the officials of the opposition, providing them with food and beverages before the game, at half time and at the end.

This would suit anybody at a loose end on a Saturday afternoon, whether they like football or not! It’s an opportunity to be part of a family of like-minded people who also help out at the club, and to meet people from different parts of the country.

* There’s still time to sponsor your favourite ’Church player in the new season, with all sponsorships contributing to the player budget.

Payments can be made direct to the club’s account (sort code 30-96-97, account 01860704; Reference: Player Sponsorship – Name).
