A walking celebration

Posted on August 21 2013 at 9:57:59

Barnt Green is holding a community walk followed by an evening pig roast to mark an agreement to promote footpaths around the parish.

There will be four guided walks taking place on Saturday September 28, varying from 6.5 miles to 2.5 miles.

The walks all start and finish at the Friends’ Meeting House in Sandhills Road, Barnt Green, and take in many local beauty spots including the Worcester and Birmingham canal, Upper and Lower Bittell Reservoirs, Cofton Church, Lickey Visitors’ Centre and woods.

Children are very welcome but, if under 16, should be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Simon Richards, the Parish Paths Warden, said: “We think there will be a walk to suit everyone and a trail quiz for the children. All the walks should arrive back at the Friends’ Meeting House at about 5.30pm in time for a pig roast. We invite individuals and families to just come along on the day and join in.”

The walks celebrate the recent agreement with Worcestershire County Council to sign and promote a number of walks in and around Barnt Green.

John Jagger, Chairman of Barnt Green Parish Council, said he was delighted to see the walks being promoted and hoped that walkers and runners from near and far would be drawn to some of the most beautiful countryside in the West Midlands.

He was looking forward to the day and hoped to welcome both local residents and visitors to what promises to be a very enjoyable event.
