Alvechurch FC’s big year

Posted on March 17 2008 at 3:12:19

Alvechurch Football Club is having one of its most successful seasons of recent years – getting through to two cup finals and, as we went to press, three semi-finals.

The first team are out of the championship race, but will face Brierley Hill in the final of the Worcestershire Senior Urn at Kidderminster Harriers’ ground on April 15.

They are also in the semi-finals of the Midland Alliance League Cup, the Worcester Infirmary Cup and the J Hunt Cup, the final of which is played at Wolves’ Molineux stadium. The youth team, meanwhile, face Bewdley in the Worcestershire County Youth Cup.

This success comes as the club prepares to celebrate 50 years of playing football at their Lye Meadow ground with a dinner and players’ trophy presentation at the Ark on May 9.

Club patron Roy Yardley is looking for a three or four-piece group to play music from the 1960s to the present – and who are prepared to play just for their dinner. Anyone interested can call Roy on 01527 62418.

* For the remainder of the season, all Alvechurch Lions players wearing their club tracksuit top will be admitted to home games for free (under-13s to be accompanied by an adult).
