At one with Barnt Green

A plea to keep Hopwood connected to Alvechurch in future district council matters has been rejected.

It and Weatheroak Hill will now become part of a Barnt Green and Hopwood Ward of Bromsgrove under final recommendations by the Local Government Boundary Commission for England.

These propose that Bromsgrove should be represented by 31 councillors after the local elections in 2015, eight fewer than the current arrangements.

Alvechurch Parish Council made strong representations to the commission, urging it to keep Hopwood in an “Alvechurch North” ward, complemented by “Alvechurch South”.

Instead, the commission wants to see the new Barnt Green and Hopwood Ward as well as Alvechurch Village and Alvechurch South Wards.

Max Caller, chairman of the commission, said: “We have sought to balance the views expressed to us by local people with the criteria we must apply.”
