The centre of Barnt Green was closed to traffic as villagers came together for another big summer festival.

After successful events for the new millennium five years ago and the Queen’s jubilee three years ago, hundreds of people enjoyed another afternoon of entertainment and displays.

Again, it brought out the community spirit in villagers who were able to meet neighbours and friends they might not have seen since the last festival.

One villager, Terry Peate, told The Village: “I would like to thank all who helped in organising the Barnt Green Village Festival.

“It really was great to have a car-free village, albeit for a short time. The way all the traders got involved, the stalls and the entertainment were first class.

“More importantly, it was a wonderful opportunity to meet friends, old and new and have a good old fashioned chat-something that is difficult in our busy lives.”

Terry also said he’d like to single out one person for special mention, festival co-ordinator Betty Lucas.

“Betty Lucas has been an absolute inspiration in co-ordinating this and the previous successful events. She is a real ‘doer’ and she deserves our heartfelt thanks.”
