Barnt Green slime queen

A youngster from Barnt Green has set up her own business, tapping into the latest kids’ craze by making “slime”.

Kate Holland, aged 12, explains: “If you’ve never heard of slime, it is like a putty which you can stretch and poke. I discovered it two years ago and was desperate to make my own.”

She learned how to make the product after spending hours watching tutorial videos and a year’s worth of experimenting.

After positive feedback from family and friends, she decided to turn the hobby into a business, selling her samples at car boot sales all around the West Midlands.

In September 2017 she started selling at various events, with the biggest so far being the Fireworks Festival at Ragley Hall in Alcester.

“My business is called Mango.Slimeeee after my favourite fruit, but I can make a huge variety of slimes in many different textures, colours and scents,“ Kate says.

She makes all the slime to order by hand at the family home, and each pot is sold with a printed care card stating what’s in the slime and how to look after it.

After friends pointed out that the slime pots make great party bag fillers, Kate came up with the idea of running children’s “slime parties” where she helps kids to make their own slime.

Her first party booking was confirmed last month, booked by a customer in Wolverhampton who had been unable to find a similar service anywhere in the UK.
