Bin that bra for charity

Villagers are being encouraged to give their support to a new “Bra Bank”, in a fundraising initiative for the charity Against Breast Cancer.

The bank has been set up at The Wishing Well health and wellbeing centre in Bromsgrove, with the aim of collecting at least 200 bras.

Anyone who deposits a bra will get 10 per cent off any purchase at the Wishing Well café.

The charity and its recycling partners prevent the bras from going into landfill before giving them a new lease of life in developing countries such as Togo, Ghana and Kenya, where bras remain too expensive to produce locally.

Any bras that are genuinely beyond redemption will be dismantled and disposed of properly.

For every tonne of bras collected, Against Breast Cancer receives £700 to fund its research into developing a vaccine.
