Birth of a new bell

Bell casting

A brand new bell for St Michael’s Church, Cofton Hackett, has been cast to replace the one stolen last autumn.

The casting at the Loughborough bell foundry of John Taylor & Co, who have been making bells since 1784, was watched by a group of more than 20 members of St Michael’s. Church warden Bob White took this picture.

The bell will now be finished and tuned, the clapper cast and the oak bell frame and fittings made, all of which is done on site in Loughborough.

It is likely to be the new year before the bell is installed, dedicated, and in use at St Michael’s.

Extra security measure will be put in place to deter thieves.
