Captain’s charity night

Bob and Denise

Bob and Denise Cashmore (right), of Alvechurch, relax during the first charity night under Bob’s tenure as Captain of Kings Norton Golf Club (which, for those who don’t know, is actually in Weatheroak Hill, Alvechurch).

Bob told The Village he felt “incredibly privileged” to have been chosen for the two-year role, during which he aimed to let everyone know what a great course the club has to offer.

The Captain’s Night raised more than £1,000 for his chosen charity, Fisher House UK, which provides free accommodation for families of military patients being treated at the nearby QE Hospital in Selly Oak.

* Meanwhile, a team from the club reached the final of the toughest amateur golf competition in the region.

The West Midlands Golf League team, captained by Mark Burchill, of Lickey, were narrowly beaten on the second extra hole after a tied match.
