Diversion plea to motorists

Villagers have been urged to be considerate to fellow residents as they find routes around major road closures due to begin in Barnt Green in the New Year.

Work to extend the junction at the bottom of Fiery Hill Road and switch the pavement under the railway bridge to that side of Kendal End Road is expected to take around 10 weeks.

It had been planned to start before Christmas, but Barnt Green Parish Council pressed for it to be put back until after the festivities and it is now expected to begin on January 9.

Anticipating that motorists may use narrow residential roads as an alternative, the parish has asked villagers to show consideration.

The aim of the work is to make the junction safer as the volume of traffic from residents of the new Cala homes increases.

Meanwhile, councillors are considering ways to emphasise that the new car park Cala Homes is providing for the parish on its Fiery Hill development is solely for use by commuters parking for the station.

One idea is to name it the “Free Station Car Park”.
