In Full . . .

End of an era

Butchers Paul Queen and Geoff Crow, of EJ Crow & Son in Alvechurch, bade farewell to customers as the shop closed for the final time.

Geoff’s father, Ted, bought the business in 1960 from Baseley & Burman (Godfrey Baseley, born on the site in 1904, was the creator of The Archers).

Geoff took over in 1972, while Paul worked there for 42 years – but they took the decision to close due to staffing problems.

“It’s given us a good life – Alvechurch is a lovely village to work in, and we’re lucky to have had such great customers,” said Paul. “We’d like to thank them all for their support.”
