Tons of Money cast

Alvechurch Dramatic Society presents Tons of Money, a farce by Will Evans and Valentine, at Alvechurch Village Hall from Thurs Nov 26 to Sat Nov 28.

Tons of Money is the precursor to the famous Aldwych farces; first performed at the Shaftesbury Theatre in 1922, it was adapted and updated by Alan Ayckbourn in 1986.

It’s the hilarious story of Aubrey, a debt-ridden inventor who inherits a fortune, which is to revert on his death to his cousin George.

However, Aubrey and his wife realise that the money is destined to end up in the hands of his creditors. As Cousin George is thought to have died abroad, they have the brilliant idea of Aubrey “dying” so that he can resurrect himself as his cousin and avoid paying his debts.

Needless to say things do not go quite as planned, with complications including a dotty aunt, scheming servants, an amorous widow and at least two unexpected visitors.

All performances take place at 7.30pm. Tickets £7 (£6 conc), available from Alvechurch Post Office or by phoning 07984 570763.
