Fears over Lickey parking

Posted on February 28 2018 at 1:57:04

Lickey residents and councillors are dismayed at Birmingham City Council’s plans to introduce parking charges for visitors to the Lickey Hills.

As well as fears that people could be deterred from visiting the Country Park and Visitor Centre, there are concerns that the move could exacerbate parking problems in the area.

“People will do a lot to save £2,” Lickey Community Group representative Keith Woolford told the Lickey & Blackwell parish council meeting.

Coun Jill Harvey said: “The Rangers have already spoken with Highways, who said they will monitor the situation – it may be that we need extra yellow lines.

“We have got off lightly for many years as other country parks do charge for parking.”

Chairman Nick Forknell pointed out that when the car park was closed temporarily last year, there was no particular increase in pavement parking.

“We have asked for more yellow lines before and Highways were not forthcoming – but maybe they will be if we have more evidence.”
