Rob and crowds

Villagers in Finstall, Barnt Green, Lickey, Blackwell and Alvechurch celebrated the start of the Christmas season with all sorts of events.

In Barnt Green, the Rev Rob Fieldson led a service and carols in Millennium Park (above) before Santa arrived to switch on the lights and lead a lantern procession to St Andrew’s First School Christmas Fair.

The inaugural Christmas Shopping Bazaar at Finstall Village Hall event featured craft stalls and refreshments and nostalgic music from Vintage Class Singers – plus a Santa’s Grotto, expertly manned by local youngsters Ellen Braithwaite, Hannah Pearson and Charlotte Wilson (below left).

Proceeds from the evening were donated to Primrose Hospice, Marie Curie Cancer Care and the Royal British Legion.

Lickey Hills Primary School choir entertained crowds ahead of Lickey’s tree light-up (bottom), while Santa also flicked the switch at Blackwell, before meeting Lily Roberts and Eva Smith at Blackwell First School’s Christmas Fair (below centre). Photos / Simon Woolford

Meanwhile, in Alvechurch, the tree in the village centre had some unusual decorations this year (below, right) – a collection of shimmering CDs, decorated by the local Women’s Institute to celebrate the WI’s 100th anniversary.
