West Midlands Police has named a new member of its dog squad in honour of young Alvechurch fundraiser Finlay Church, whose ambition was to become a policeman.

Finlay, who raised more than £150,000 for Brain Rumour Research and Birmingham Children’s Hospital, was able to spend a couple of days with the force before losing his battle with a brain tumour in November 2015.

He made a big impression on officers including Sergeant Phil McMullen, who have continued to support charity events in his name.

The decision to call one of the German Shepherd puppies “Finn” was revealed with a surprise visit to Alvechurch Middle School, where Finlay’s family and former school pals were raising money for Brain Tumour Research through “Wear A Hat Day.”

Right: Finlay’s parents, Penny and Wayne, and brother, Kenzie, meet Finn.
