A group of friends who have seen loved ones battle with cancer will embark on a marathon bike ride in May to raise funds for research into the disease.

Nine cyclists from Cofton Hackett, Alvechurch, Barnt Green and Bromsgrove will cycle the 280+ miles fom the Eiffel Tower in Paris to Tom Tower in Oxford, in aid of Cancer Research UK.

Although some of the “Tour de Towers” team are experienced cyclists, most are relative novices – some have not ridden in more than 15 years – and their ages range from 24 to 74.

“We wanted to do something different from the popular London–Paris route,” says Clare Southall, who has organised the ride along with Kirsty Banham.

“We have already had some generous donations from local businesses to enable the trip to go ahead, but we’re also holding some fundraising events ahead of the trip.”

Thse include a charity coffee morning on March 11, from 9.30am at 43 Reservoir Road, Cofton Hackett, and a cheese and wine tasting evening on April 22 at 8pm.

The venue is to be confirmed, but tickets costing £20 can be booked via Clare on 07989 716901 or .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)
