A charity golf day at Blackwell Golf Club raised more than £8,000 for charitable causes.

The annual event, organised by the Rotary Club of North Worcestershire, saw 60 golfers taking part – the team with the highest Stableford score were Jonathan Thompson and Alistair Booth, who received prizes from club president Dave Foster.

A large number of local companies helped to sponsor the day, many also donating prizes for a raffle and auction held at the dinner following the competition.

A drinks reception before the dinner was attended by village MP and Culture Secretary Sajid Javid, who met a number of the players and the sponsors.

The club’s two principal charities this year are Prostate Cancer Awareness and Worcestershire Special Olympics, the latter being a locally-based group of parents, relatives and volunteers providing year-round sports training and competitions for children and young adults with learning difficulties.

During the course of the next 12 months, the club plans to make donations to a number of other local charities.

If you are interested and wish to help raise funds, please contact Dave Foster, President on 01527 833522.
