Good citizens raise funds

Posted on September 20 2013 at 1:41:34

Harriet and Laura

Two Alvechurch youngsters helped raise £1,400 for Macmillan Cancer Support by organising a sponsored fun run, raffle and tombola.

South Bromsgrove High School pupils Harriet Houghton and Laura Kelkin are taking part in National Citizen Service, a government initiative that encourages 16 and 17-year-olds to get involved in community work.

During a team-building event at Stratford Manor, their group had a talk from a Macmillan representative and they were inspired to raise funds for the charity.

The girls sold raffle tickets in the village and asked local businesses to donate prizes ahead of the main event, a fun run in Arrow Valley Park.

They would like to thank everyone who helped in any way, with special thanks to The Crown Inn at Withybed Green, where Harriet was able to sell tickets during the summer beer festival.
