Cofton Hackett’s brand new village hall was officially opened with a special launch weekend, and is now seeking volunteers to help keep it running smoothly.

Cofton Village Hall Trust, which now runs the facility, hopes local people will join a new management committee as well as getting involved with any tasks that need doing.

Located on the corner of East Works Drive and Groveley Lane, the 4,000 sq ft building cost £1m and features a kitchen, a 1,600 sq ft hall, an office, a meeting room, a community room and a sheltered external activity area.

The Trust is still raising money to fully equip the hall, with trustees working hard to secure grants in addition to organising community fundraising activities.

The Trustees said: “We’re excited to be up and running so local residents can start enjoying groups, events and activities here.

This is a fantastic opportunity to bring people together and a brilliant environment for a variety of different uses. We can’t do it without the help of the community.”

The first community event to take place in the new Cofton Village Hall was a Macmillan Coffee Afternoon.

Shelagh O’Loughlin, event organiser and one of the hall’s Trustees, said: “It was a perfect opportunity for the local community to come and see the new hall in action, eat some cake and raise money for such a good cause.

“A big thank you to the 70 people who attended, those who baked and helped with the afternoon, raising £436.38 – a fantastic amount.”
