Hall’s cash boost

Kitchen opening

Thanks to grants from The Big Lottery Fund and Worcestershire County Council, Hopwood Village Hall now boasts a gleaming new kitchen.

The hall, which turned 100 in 2014, used the lottery cash and money from county councillor June Griffiths’ divisional grant to replace the existing facilities.

The kitchen and committee room also have smart new decor courtesy of The Little Greene Paint Company, after Hopwood WI won a makeover in a nationwide competition.

The group had met at the hall since 1920, but were forced to move out due to the building’s condition – until the centenary refurbishments, including new toilets, heating and wi-fi, enabled them to come home.

Coun Griffiths said the “vision” of the hall’s committee had made the hall into a valuable community facility, while committee member and WI President Ann Thurrell thanked the neighbouring factory units and Westmead Hotel for offering overspill parking when the hall is hired out.

Residents are invited to a Hall Open Day on Saturday October 29, 11am–3pm, when free refreshments will be available. More information from Peter on 0121 445 4022.
