Have your say on ‘MUGA’ site

Villagers are being asked this month where they would like to see a £90,000 “multi-use games arena” – or MUGA – and adventure play equipment built in Alvechurch.

A consultation leaflet will be sent to all homes in the village giving the pros and cons of two named sites: the Swans Length playing field – between the Becks and Birmingham Road – and The Meadows.

Officers from Bromsgrove District Council have already indicated their favoured option is Swans Length, mainly because preliminary work to make The Meadows viable would eat into the budget.

And the Wiggin Memorial Trust, which oversees The Meadows, has said it would not want a MUGA there, although they might consider other options.

Residents will also be asked to suggest other sites during the consultation, which ends on March 7.

If all goes to plan, a public meeting is to be held in the first week of April, with work starting soon after so the equipment is in place for summer.

The timetable was agreed at a meeting of Alvechurch Neighbourhood Committee, where Swans Length residents attended believing they could have a say after an unknown person distributed a misleading leaflet.
