Hopwood mums win play backing

A group of Hopwood mums, with the backing of Alvechurch Parish Council, are a step closer to seeing their children playing on new equipment.

Since approaching the council last year, they have raised two thirds of the £30,000 needed to install the equipment on the parish-owned Hopwood playing fields.

£10,000 of this is coming from the Bromsgrove “new homes bonus” after the mums presented their plea to the panel deciding the awards.

Coun John Cypher said: “We applied for money under the new homes bonus scheme and sent a delegation, including a Hopwood mum and her daughter, to meet the panel.

“We blew the panel away,” he added.

“There is a bit of play equality in this. There has been a lot spent on the Meadows in Alvechurch village and these mums would like some spent in Hopwood.”

* The parish council is to investigate installing a large sign and posts to tie dogs to at The Meadows after some villagers had called for a fence to be installed around the new play equipment there to keep dogs out.

“The fencing idea is out. I don’t think that is what we are about,” said Coun Marc Worrall.
