International motocross site ‘hits the dirt’

Ambitious plans to make Hopwood a venue for international motocross events appear to have gone off track after complaints from residents.

Billed in a Birmingham evening newspaper as the “£50,000 Hopwood Moto Park”, a field off Lea End Lane was the site for one event in early August.

But the leader of Bromsgrove District Council, Roger Hollingworth, said he had since been assured no more events were planned after the council issued an enforcement notice for noise pollution following the floodlit event.

Residents complained of “motocross madness” and asked: ”When did Hopwood become the target for major developments?“

Coun Hollingworth said: “We had a lot of complaints from Hopwood. I spoke to the landowners today and they assured me that there will be no more events.”

As The Village went to press, event organiser Wild Style’s website was still billing an event for September 5.
