Lickey thieves caught in the act

Police are appealing for information after two men were spotted stealing a woman’s handbag from a car parked near the Lickey Hills Visitor Centre.

It happened at about 3pm on Sunday 21 August.

A man pulled up next to his friend’s silver Peugeot 306 on the Warren Lane car park at the Lickey Hills near Bromsgrove to see two men standing next to her car holding her handbag.

He shouted at them and they dropped the bag and ran off.

The bag had been in the boot. It was discovered that £100 damage had been caused to the front passenger door of the vehicle with a screwdriver or similar implement.

One man was described as white, with brown hair, and was wearing a red t-shirt which was possibly a football shirt. The other was wearing a sports top or jogging top, and dark jeans or jogging bottoms.

Sergeant Carl Paskin of West Mercia Police said: “Cars do get broken into on the Lickey Hills and other North Worcestershire beauty spots, and we suspect the thieves watch people arrive as they seem to know when handbags have been left in the boat or hidden under seats. This latest incident is unusual in that the offenders were spotted, and we have a description of them.

“The Lickey Hills and Clent Hills are a priority for police and community support officers carrying out patrols but they can’t be everywhere at once and with another bank holiday weekend coming up, it is worth reminding everyone never to leave valuables such as handbags, as well as sat navs, MP3 players, mobile phones and laptops, in their vehicles.”

Witnesses or anyone with information about is asked to contact West Mercia Police on 0300 333 3000 quoting incident 430-s-210811 or ring Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
