Lounge’s future hangs in the balance

Posted on February 29 2016 at 2:44:14

Lounge

The Lounge youth project and café in Alvechurch is to hold a public meeting to discuss its future, which is looking uncertain after a series of misfortunes.

In the past two months the sudden deaths of three committee members, coupled with two resignations, has seen the Management Group reduced to four people and, as a result, the charity now has no elected chair, secretary or treasurer.

In addition, due to Government cuts, funding from Worcestershire County Council will cease from this month.

“Since the project was initiated six and a half years ago, it has overcome many challenges, but this is the most serious yet,” says The Lounge’s project co-ordinator, Sally Meredith.

The public meeting will be held on Monday March 7 at 7.30pm, in the Baptist Church Hall. It is hoped that new personnel and new ideas will be forthcoming.

“If you are keen to see this project move forward into a new phase, we encourage you to come along and share your input,” says Sally.
