When four-year-old Maisie Butler was taken to see The Nutcracker by her grandmother, she never imagined that she herself would be dancing in the much-loved ballet just six years later.

Maisie, now aged 10 and a pupil at Bromsgrove School, loved ballet so much that her parents signed her up for classes in Solihull – and when the family moved to Barnt Green, she continued to develop her talent at Maxine Grant School of Dance in the village.

Maisie went on to join Siobhan Collins-McCarthy Dance Academy in Harborne, and is now part of Birmingham Royal Ballet’s Junior Associate Programme. Hundreds of applicants attend the prestigious annual auditions, with only a handful of youngsters chosen.

She is also a member of the Midlands Theatre Ballet Company, which has an equally rigorous selection process.

Maisie will be dancing with Birmingham Royal Ballet in The Nutcracker this season, with 12 performances at the Hippodrome and five at the O2 Arena in London.

She is also busy rehearsing for the Midlands Theatre Ballet Company’s production of Sleeping Beauty, which takes place at the Crescent Theatre in Birmingham next Easter.

“We would like to give our sincere thanks to Siobhan Collins-McCarthy Dance Academy – Siobhan is dedicated and works extremely hard with all her students,” says Maisie’s proud dad Jason.

The Nutcracker is on at the Hippodrome from November 25 to December 11, and at the O2 Arena from December 27 to 30.
