Plans to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I are under way in Alvechurch and Barnt Green.

A Peace Concert takes place at Alvechurch Middle School at 7.30pm on Friday November 9, with performances by Alvechurch Community Choir, Cantare Choir, Acoustic Belles and Withybed Poets.

Entry is free, but it’s advisable to get a ticket to ensure a seat – these are available from The Lounge.

On Sunday November 11 there’s an 11am service at the green on Bear Hill, at which the Community Choir will also sing.

The parish council was nominated by the county council to receive a free day’s labour by Ringway engineers in preparation for the commemorations – this will include cleaning the bench and repairing the damaged wall on the green.

Barnt Green Parish Council has decided to install a flagpole in Millennium Park, with a plaque to mark 100 years since the Armistice. It is hoped that this will be in place by November 11.

Councillors also discussed suggestions for a commemorative tree or bench on Parker’s Piece playing field.
