Christmas card

Light has been thrown on the origins of the hand-painted Christmas card found by workmen in Bear Hill, Alvechurch, and featured in the November issue of The Village.

Rona Dalley (née Morris), of Warbank Close, is sure that it would have been painted by a child at the old school in School Lane during the 1950s.

“I’ve got one very similar and I can remember us painting them when I was about eight years old,” says 62-year-old Rona.

She remembers that the teacher was a Mr Owen and she has a theory that the card, signed “from your Topsy Wopsy, Valerie”, could have been from a schoolfriend called Valerie Morton to her grandfather, whom Rona thinks used to work in the former Grammar School building where the card was found.
