Sarah Rees reports from the Oakalls and Parklands . . .

Demand for houses on the new Oakalls Grange development has significantly exceeded the expectations of the developers, Newland Homes. More than 350 pre-registered enquiries have been received, well ahead of the first anticipated completion date this summer.

Many prospective purchasers attended a sales preview event at Bromsgrove Golf Club. All were local people, predominantly either currently living on the estate or with a family connection to the Oakalls.

“I cannot recall any development creating so much interest,” says Gail Remnant, Sales Manager at Newland Homes.

“The development and house type designs were well received at the preview weekend and all comments were very positive.”

Work is progressing well on site with the sales office scheduled to open later this month, followed by the show home in May.

Children from the estate had plenty of fun when they celebrated World Book Day at Finstall First School (pictured above).

Four-year-old Henry dressed as Casper the Friendly Ghost and seven-year-old Daniel was a wonderful Oompa Loompa. Other book characters included Just William, Captain Underpants and the White Rabbit from Alice in Wonderland.

“It’s a really great experience to dress up as someone from your favourite book,” said eight-year-old Charlie (aka Where’s Wally?).

“During the day we read about the characters people have dressed up as, and we get a voucher to buy a book.”

It is hoped that residents will have the opportunity to get together for a summer ‘picnic in the park’. However, events such as this cannot be organised without the help of volunteers.

Coun Caroline Spencer is asking for people to get in touch if they have the time to take on a small role in helping to make this event happen.

We know from the Christmas event how successful a small group of people can be, if they work together as a team.

Please don’t forget there is a Facebook page for The Oakalls which provides a useful platform for letting other residents know about forthcoming events in the area.

You can also post your own news and stories about any aspect of life on the estate. Facebook gives you a local voice – please like it and use it.
